Can someone please confirm that i can travel by train to these destinations?

You should be able to get to all your destinations using the JR Pass, and will be able to travel on weekdays and weekends with no problems. Here are some basic itineraries for you to base your travel on:

1. Tokyo > Osaka: ¥13950, (194mins, 556km)
2. Osaka > Hiroshima: ¥10150, (104mins, 345km)
3. Hiroshima > Nagasaki(nagasaki): ¥12850, (190mins, 434km)
4. Nagasaki(nagasaki) > Tokyo: ¥25140, (499mins, 1328km)

TOTAL: ¥62090 for 4 legs

• 07 day rail pass (¥28,300) saving: ¥33790
• 14 day rail pass (¥45,100) saving: ¥16990
• 21 day rail pass (¥57,700) saving: ¥4390

One quick last question.... what is the standard of living like in Japan? E.G. the cost of food and drinks etc.

Hi Paula,

No problem! I think if you're on a budget you can expect to pay something in the region of ¥300-500 for breakfast, ¥300-1000 for lunch and ¥1000-3000 for dinner. You can eat for a lot cheaper and way more expensive, but budgeting for that amount will allow you to sample a wide range of things without totally breaking the bank.
