Daytime rail travel from Kyoto to Sapporo

Hi there!

This is certainly possible in a single day but you should consider the travel time involved, as it will take most of your day.

The route is as follows, first Kyoto - Tokyo with the Shinkansen, at Tokyo you transfer to the Tohoku Shinkansen bound for Aomori. At Aomori station you can transfer to a limited express train which will take your to Hakonedate. At Hakodate you make the last transfer to an other limited express train to Sapporo.

First Kyoto - Tokyo 161 Minutes

Then Tokyo - Sapporo 616 Minutes

As you can see, you would have to depart very early in order to arrive in Sapporo at a decent time.

Thanks Daniel. Just one question - is there an earlier morning train from Kyoto to Tokyo that will get us to Tokyo in time to catch the 11:00am train to Sapporo?

Yes trains start riding around 6 a.m. in the morning, so you could even depart sooner.

The is the most early route 06:23 Departure Kyoto Arrival 09:10 in Tokyo.

Then 09:36 Departure Tokyo 18:46 arrival in Sapporo.
