Hello, my husband and I are traveling to Tokyo at the end of June for five days, then moving along to Kyoto for 4 days. We'd like to take a Shinkansen to Kyoto- can we use the JR Rail Pass to do so, and if so, which train does the pass allow. We will be staying right near Tamatchi station in Tokyo but can leave from Tokyo Station with ease as well. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi there,

You can use the Hikari Shinkansen to travel to Kyoto using the JR Pass. A pass is worth considering if you at least make a return Tokyo - Kyoto.

Tamachi station is also on the JR Network, so you can travel for free from there :)

Kind regards,
Daniel
