Is it advisable to get JR pass to travel from Narita Airport to Tokyo where we stay 2 nights and then to Hakone where we stay 1 night and then to Osaka for 4 nights and back to Yokohama for 2 nights?

What is the best way to travel from Hakone to Osaka? Is it advisable to go back to Tokyo first; then take Shinkanshen to Shin Osaka? Or do we go to Osaka direct from Hakone?

Would appreciate the best possible way for our travel. Or do we rent a car? There are 4 of us travelling. Thank you

Hi there,

If you buy a 7Day JR-Pass you could make the following savings.

Tokyo --> Odawara (for Hakone) ¥ 3,640
Odawara -> Osaka ¥ 12,270
Osaka --> Yokohama ¥ 13,430

For a total of ¥ 29,340, the 7 Day JR-Pass is 28,300 so you could at-least save 1040, plus you could use the pass on local JR-Lines in Osaka and Yokohama, to further add to the savings.

Hakone is easily accessible from the station called Odawara, from here you can take a private railway into the area or rent a car. Both are great options! I think a Hakone Free Pass may be of use if you plan on traveling around in the area by train or other public transport method. When you go for Osaka I would suggest returning to Odawara and take the Shinkansen from there as it is the fastest way!

Hope this helps,
Daniel
