Can the JR Pass cover the areas of Shirakawa-go and nearby UNESCO sites for sight-seeing?

Hi Susan,
The JR Pass only covers JR operated rail and buses. As JR does not operate a service to Shirakawago you'll need to use alternative companies to travel there.
I recommend that users of the JR Pass use JR to get as far as Takayama station, from which they can board a [Nohi operated bus to Shirakawago].
