Hi,

my sister and I are planning a trip to Japan in the beginning of April 2014. Our itinerary will be as follows:-
- fly to Osaka - Osaka to Hakone (2 nights) - Hakone to Tokyo (3 nights) - Tokyo to Kyoto (2 nights) - back to Osaka (3 nights)

What would be the best option, whether a 7-day JR pass or normal rail fare?

Thank you.

Jess

Hi Jess!

Yes, I think a 7 day JR Pass would work out well for you! The price of the 7 day JRPass is about the same as a return Osaka/Kyoto - Tokyo and any additional travel after that is actually what you save. You can also use the JR Pass on local JR trains in both Tokyo and Osaka.

I would also recommend looking into a Hakone Free Pass, this because you can use the JR Pass to reach Hakone but not for local travel within the area. Here the Hakone Free Pass makes a great addition.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
