I planned on going to Japan next week for 7 days and purchased a rail pass. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I won't be able to go.

I plan on going in 2013, but I need to know what the change policy is for my pass. It was purchased last month. Does anyone have experience with moving their travel back? What do I need to do?

Hi there!

The JR Pass must be used within 3 months of the activation date and are not re-issuable. This means that for your 2013 trip you will need to return your rail pass for a refund and then repurchase a pass again nearer your time of travel. You have 1 year from the date of purchase to request a refund so you have plenty of time for this. If you have purchased your rail pass from jrpass.com please contact [email protected] who will be happy to walk you through the procedure. You can read more about the jrpass.com returns procedure here.

Hope this helps!
