I will be traveling to Japan this year to visit my boyfriend who lives there. I will be there 14 days and plan on getting a rail pass. I know he can't get a rail pass since he lives in Japan, so how do I make sure we can sit together on trains?

Hi there!
This is something you don't have to worry about. When you go to the train station to make seat reservations, simply tell the JR Pass that you will be traveling together. They will reserve the seats for you, simply show your JR Pass to get your ticket. Your boyfriend can pay his ticket at the same time.
I hope this helps!
Daniel
