Hi,
Did I still need to buy Icoca ( 5000 Yen perperson) to take a train to shin-Osaka from Kansai Airport?.
I confused. because some info mentioned i still need to?

My questions is, can I use my JR pass from Kansai Aiport to Shin -Osaka Station when I reach 21st dec?
Or it is optional ( Up to me) because I plan to activate the usage JR pass from 22nd -28th Dec.
So Is best to buy Iccoca then I would used it just for to and fro airport kansai to Shin -osaka
(Reach 21st, back on 31st Dec)

Thanks much

Hi There,

Am I correct in that you are trying to ask if you need to buy a separate ticket from Kansai Airport to Shin-Osaka?
In any case you CAN use your JR-Pass to travel from Kansai Airport by JR-Train for free to Shin-Osaka.

In case you activate it on the 28th you can either buy a single ticket or use your Iccoca card. Both options will cost ¥1,320 if you take the local train.

Hope it is of any use.

Hi there,

If you have an active JR Pass, then it will cover the train from Kansai Airport to Shin-Osaka 100% and you do not need to purchase any futher tickets.

I think in your situation I recommend keeping your plans as they are and purchasing the round trip Haruka+ICOCA. At ¥4000 it is only slightly more expensive than a one way ticket from Shin-Osaka to Kansai on the Haruka and also includes some free travel on the metro in Kansai. Alternatively if you don't need the metro travel, or have a more relaxed schedule, as Daniel points out, you can do each journey using JR local lines for ¥1320 and simply purchase tickets as you go.

Hope this helps!

Can ICoca card accessible within Osaka hassle free?
It is cheaper buy as and when i travel within Osaka rather than buy Icoca card?

Hi there,

The ICOCA will be useful inside Osaka and Kyoto to travel on the metro as well as JR lines so it is a very useful card I think.

The ICOCA card is simply a prepaid card - travel using it is no cheaper than buying tickets as and when you travel, but it is more convenient. The only exception to this is the Haruka + ICOCA deal I mention above - this includes ¥1500 of prepaid travel value on an ICOCA card to use.

You can recharge the ICOCA card at all JR and metro stations.

Hope this helps!
