We arrive in Haneda on Oct 19 und leve from Narita Nov 4
First 5 days in Tokyo, then 4 days in Kyoto. In between maybe a few hours stopover to get a good view of Mt Fuji.
On the way back to Tokyo we plan to travel through japanese alps and visit places like Kanazawa,Takayama, Matsumoto and maybe hot springs in between. Can we use JRP in the mountains and does it make sense to buy a pass for our itinerary. Are there festivals in this area during our visit that could make accomodation difficult to find.
Thanks, Ben
JRP in Japanese alps?
Hi Ben!
You can certainly use the JR Pass in the Japanese alps and you can use it to reach Kanazawa,Takayama and Matsumoto. As if a JR Pass would make sense, this would depend on your final itinerary. I've added a list of normal ticket prices below, in order to get an idea of what is involved.
Tokyo - Kyoto ¥ 13,220
Kyoto - Kanazawa ¥ 6,710
Kanazawa - Takayama ¥ 5,840
Takayama - Matsumoto ¥ 11,310
Matsumoto - Tokyo ¥ 9,850
For a total of ¥ 46,930 in normal ticket prices, The 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 45,100 or ¥ 1,830 in savings. You can also make use to the JR Pass to travel to Narita Airport as well as many local lines in Tokyo, also making stops on the way never is a problem with the JR Pass.
Lastly there's no special festival that I am aware of which could cause difficulty in finding an accommodation.
Hope this helps!
Daniel
