Hello!

We are going on a trip to Japan this Nov and I am wondering if we should get the JR pass or just get individual tickets?

Our itinerary is:
Land in Haneda -> Tokyo 3 nights
Tokyo -> Matsumoto (on the way to Nagano) -> Nagano 2 nights
Nagano -> Kanazawa 2 nights
Kanazawa -> Tokyo 3 nights

Also if we decide to get individual tickets, do we purchase them at the stations? Or online?

Hi there,

Considering your itinerary, a 7-day Nationwide JR Pass could be a good option. I recommend activating it on the day you leave Tokyo for Matsumoto.

Your itinerary involves several long-distance Shinkansen journeys. The JR Pass would cover these journeys, as well as some local JR lines within cities. It would be hassle-free to travel without paying for each individual journey while you stay in Japan.

I hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
