Hello,

During January from the 6th to the 27th I will be staying in Japan, and mostly either commuting in, or to Tokyo on a daily basis. I see that there is a 21 day pass that can be bought. A person that I may be staying with says that it will take me about 40 min to get to Tokyo from there house on the Tokaido line. From there I would be walking into the city. Within the city, going from Shibuya, to Shinjuku, to Harajuku, and other spots, does the JR line also run? Does the 21 day pass cover all of this traveling?

As well, does anyone have an estimate of how much it would cost to get my luggage from Narita to my host's home in Kanagawa, as well as getting myself there? Does the 21 day pass also cover this?

Hi there!

The JR Pass covers most of your travel to Kanagawa, you can use the JR to travel to Yokohama station, from there you may have to use a private railway for the last part to Kanagawa, depending on where your host is living, this last part would be around 170yen/one way.

You can also use the JR Pass to travel to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku and many more important places in Tokyo. However the JR Pass is best suited for longer travel, such as on the Shinkansen to Kyoto or even Hiroshima.

To get your luggage to Kanagawa there are two option. One is to take it with you on board the train, this is free but may be heavy. From Narita Airport you can get on the Narita Express which travels directly to Yokohama, so you don't have to carry it around a lot. From Yokohama it is only a small trip to Kanagawa.

The 2nd option is to use the Takkyu bin service to have your luggage shipped from Narita Airport to Kanagawa. The price differs on size and weight, expect to pay around 1,500yen for a full size suitcase.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
