Hi

Would like to check if it is feasible to get the 7 days JR pass and how to get to the following places if I have the following itinerary:

-Arrive at Haneda Airport on the 31 Oct 0530hrs. - Proceed to Hakone and stay for the night and leaving the next evening (1 Nov) to Osaka - Leave Osaka for Kyoto on the 4 Nov - Leave Kyoto for Toyko on the 6 Nov

I understand that if I activate the JR pass on the 31 Oct, the pass will expire on the 6Nov. If that is the case, what other pass should I get to travel in Tokyo and finally to Haneda Airport?

Hi there!

I do think that a 7 day JR Pass would work out well here! The price is roughly the same as a return between Tokyo and Kyoto/Osaka, so any extra travel you do is basically what you save. You can use the JR Pass right away from Haneda to travel to Odawara (bullet train station for Hakone) and it would also cover you up to the return to Tokyo on the 6th of November.

When you get back to Tokyo, consider buying an IC Card such as Suica to pay for your local travel in Tokyo and for your return to Haneda Airport.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply, Daniel San. This definitely helps!

One more question, I noticed that the JR pass exchange offices only open at 11am at the Haneda Airport.

As I will be arriving at the Haneda Airport at 5.30 am, do I have to wait till 11am to exchange for the pass or are there any other ways to exchange upon arriving at Haneda?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there!

This is true, somehow I read that you would be arriving at 5.30 p.m. so I thought that you would be alright.

The best option is to travel from Haneda Airport --> Tokyo station and activate your JR Pass in case of an early arrival. You could ask the staff there if they can refund the tickets but I am not sure if this is done.

The best way to get to Tokyo from Haneda Airport is to take the Monorail - Hamamatsucho, which is the last stop for the Monorail and transfer here to the Yamanote line bound for Tokyo. All together this takes about 30min / ¥ 620.

I hope this helps too!

Hi Daniel San

Apologies! I've another question. I have decided to go Kyushu instead of Osaka. Do u recommend to go Kawachi Fuji Garden in Nov? I understand the best period to go there is end April to mid May.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Again!

The Kawachi Fuji Garden is indeed best visited in Spring. I don't know how much flowers there may be in November. However you may just be in time to see the autumn Maple leaf display which is also very beautiful. In addition you would make really good use of the JR Pass if you travel to Kitakyushu

Enjoy!
Daniel
