Daniel-san,

I suspect we will be making good use of our 7 day JR Rail Pass if we plan to make all these stops. Do we have to make our Train reservation(s) ahead of our travel dates and if so which is the Hyperdia Website where this is done or can we just go to the Train Station on the day that we wish to travel. Not having traveled a lot via trains, not sure if it's best to book reservations ahead of time, similar to airline tickets.

Mahalo!

Hi there!

Trains rarely sell out so you don't have to make seat reservations long in advance. You can simply go to the station, tell the JR Staff where you wish to go and they will reserve seats for you on the train which is departing next. This is my favorite way of traveling as you don't have to worry about missing the train, because you can always take the first available. Trains depart very frequently so you never have to wait long.

I hope this helps!

PS: You are absolutely right about making the most of your JR Pass with the above route!
