Hello!

I am giving this forum a shot. I have never traveled to Japan and it seems daunting to me but nevertheless adventure awaits.

I am going to stay for 2 nights in Richmond Hotel Asakusa coming fr the airport. I purchased a JR pass. How do I get there? And can my friend who do not have a JR pass ride the same way as I did as we are meeting in airport and traveling to same hotel.

I understand there is not really a direct way to asakusa station. Is it safe to hop in and out of stns with a large luggage? Would it be best we both purchase a ticket going to asakusa stn instead?

Hi there,

When I did my first trip to Japan years ago, my first stay was in Asakusa too. So we're sort of in the same boat, as a bit of a spoiler, I can tell you there's nothing much to worry about there.

The Richmond Hotel is close on foot from Asakusa Metro station, the best way to get there with the JR Pass would be to use the Narita Express to Ueno station, then transfer to the Tokyo Metro (Ginza line) to Asakusa. Note that the metro is not included in the JR Pass, but it is only a few stops. Stations have elevators, so it would not be too hard with luggage. If you are still hesitant about that, consider a taxi for the last bit from Ueno station to the hotel.

Your friend can buy a ticket at the same time, when you reserve your seat for the Narita Express and the JR Staff can seat you together.

Kind regards,
Daniel
