We are family of 5 adults travelling for 13 days to Japan for skiing with 6 night Tokyo before the ski trip
I need to know whether the 14 day JR pass is worthwhile for us as it is a lot of money
D1 arrive 7pm Narita- airport to city Shinjuku
6 nights Tokyo in Shinjuku- we will do day trip Nikko and also disneyland and around Tokyo
Day 7-Tokyo - to Nagano then bus to Hakuba
Day 13 Hakuba back to Narita airport
Basically I need to know if the JR pass is the way to go before I spend over $2000
Cheers Debbie
Cost of single train tickets versus JR Pass 14day
Hi Debbie!
The JR Pass is pretty amazing is you visit different regions of Japan. Looking at your itinerary I see that you will be staying in Tokyo most of the time and spend the rest around Hakuba. This is why I think that you would be better of buying normal tickets.
When you travel to Nikko, consider buying a Nikko [Heritage Pass]. Which provides you with travel to Nikko and offers nice discounts on local attractions.
To give you an idea of ticket prices here's a small list:
Narita - Shinjuku ¥ 1,590 (local line)
Shinjuku - Nagano ¥ 6,920
Hakuba - Narita Airport ¥ 10,570 (by train only)
I hope this helps!
Daniel
Hi thanks Daniel
Can I buy Nikko heritage pass in Tokyo and is it easy at Narita to buy train to shinjuku one way
Also can where do we buy ticket to Nagano ?
Cheers Debbie
Hi Debbie,
You can buy the Heritage Pass at the Toei Asakusa station this is the station where you get on the train to Nikko.
As for JR tickets, to Shinjuku and Nagano, you can buy these at any JR station in Japan. This includes Narita Airport and Shinjuku station. Simply go to the ticket counter and tell the JR staff where you wish to travel.
Cheers!
Daniel
