My wife and I are traveling to Japan from December 9th through December 17th. I was wondering if we would eligible to purchase the 7 day pass even though we aren't staying 15-90 days as specified for a short term status.

Hi there,
The eligibility is based on stays which can be up to 15 days or up to 90 days, so yes you can purchase a JR Pass even though you aren’t staying for 15 days.
