Hello, we are a couple and we are travelling to Japan in April. Our hotel in Tokyo is located between kodemmacho and ningyocho station (hibiya line) and our hotel in Osaka is close to Namba train station. We don’t know if it’s better using 7 or 14 JRail pass. We are thinking about following this program:
1 day: Narita airport - oshiage station (asakusa line) –ningyocho station -ryogoku station (edo museum) - ueno station (ueno park) - asakusa station
2 day: ningyocho station- higashi nihombashi station – Shinjuku station –harajuku station –shibuya station
3 day: ningyocho station- hatchobori station (keio line) – maihama station -Disney sea
4 day: ningyocho station – tsukiji (hibija line) – Odiba (National Museum of Emerging Science)
5 day: ningyocho station – shibuya - Shinjuku
6 day: ningyocho station – nikko
7 day: ningyocho station – Osaka (Nanba Train Station)
8 day: Nanba Train Station - Universal Studios
9 day: Nanba Train Station - Hiroshima
10 day: Nanba Train Station - Mt Koya
11 day: Mt Koya - Kyoto
12 day: Kyoto – Narita (Mercure Hotel Narita )
We had made this plan , thinking that we would activate a 7 day JRail Pass on 6th day but we are not sure what to do. We would appreciate your help.
7 or 14 days jrp?
Hi there!
As all of your travel at the start of your trip is in and around Tokyo I think it makes most sense for you to use the [Narita Express + SUICA card deal] from the 1st to the 5th and then activate a 7 day JR Pass from the 6th - 12th. This will give you the most savings I think. To confirm, here is an interactive travel map of your JR stations, and your cost savings for the 7 day pass:
- Tokyo > Nikko: ¥5,230 (121mins, 150km)
- Nikko > Tokyo: ¥5,230 (121mins, 150km)
- Tokyo > Jr-namba: ¥13,750 (227mins, 568km)
- Jr-namba > Universalcity: ¥170 (21mins, 9km)
- Universalcity > Jr-namba: ¥170 (21mins, 9km)
- Jr-namba > Hiroshima: ¥9,950 (130mins, 357km)
- Hiroshima > Jr-namba: ¥9,950 (130mins, 357km)
- Jr-namba > Kyoto: ¥890 (53mins, 52km)
- Kyoto > Narita: ¥14,270 (269mins, 583km)
JR ticket cost: ¥59,610 for 9 legs
- 7 day Japan Rail Pass (¥28,300) saving: ¥31,310
I hope this helps!
