HI, my husband and i will be bringing our 20-month old to visit the Kansai area from 24 to 31 Oct. We would prefer to travel on trains and subways (rather than bus) because of the baby stroller. We would be visiting Arashimaya, the kiyomizu temple, and the Osaka and Himeji castles. Should I get a JR Pass or a JR West Pass? Thank you very much.

Hi there,

For a trip of this size, I think you should either aim for the Kansai Thru Pass as this will give you travel between locations (here's a map of coverage). It will also cover the bus and subway in Kyoto and Osaka, so you should be able to get everywhere you want with this ticket. The only caveat is that you will need to use non-JR lines, so if this is an issue you should look at the West Pass with subway tickets as needed.

Hope this helps!
