Hi,

Travelling to Japan on a 14 day holiday. Planning to travel to Tokyo then Izu peninsula, Mount Fuji, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and will fly out of Osaka at the end of the trip.

Please advise if 14 day pass covers all locations and cost of all city travel within Tokyo and elsewhere. Would this be better value than getting a 7 day pass and paying for additional tickets at Tokyo including travel to Izu Peninsula to Mount Fuji.

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi there!

As you're doing a one way trip, I think it's highly likely single tickets will be your best option rather than rail passes. A quick check of your Bullet Train trips gives us the following cost breakdown:

  1. Tokyo > Nagoya: ¥10580, (126mins, 366km)
  2. Nagoya > Kyoto: ¥5440, (37mins, 147km)
  3. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥1680, (27mins, 42km)

TOTAL: ¥17700 for 3 legs

As you can see you'll need to do another ¥10600 of JR travel to make a 7 day pass (¥28,300) worth it. As your trip is spread over 14 days, I recommend you to purchase tickets as needed.

Hope this helps!
