Which pass should I get?

Hi there

My wife and I are coming to Japan in April. We fly into Tokyo and have 3 days there, then start to travel. Our itinerary is:-

April 7 - Tokyo to Hakone
April 10 - Hakone to Kyoto
April 12 - Kyoto to Otsu
April 14 - Otsu to Osaka

Then fly home from Osaka on April 15

Will it be cheaper to get individual tickets or to get a 7 day JR regional Pass. And if the latter, should we pay for the Tokyo-Hakone ticket or the Otsu-Osaka ticket, as we will have to pay for one, as they are 8 days apart.

And can we get the fast bullet trains with the JR pass?

Thank you!

Brian

Hi Brian,

For your trip it will be cheaper to buy normal tickets, a JR Pass would have been a good option if you made a return to Tokyo after Osaka.

You could look at a Hakone Free Pass to explore the Hakone region.

Hope this helps :)
Daniel
