What type of pass should I take?

Hi there!

My partner and I will be going to Japan for 14 days in Febuary.

An outline of our itinerary is, Tokyo - Hakone - Kyoto - Osaka - Tokyo.

Ive been looking in to buying the Jr national rail pass (14days) as we will be traveling entirely by train. We may also do day trips sometimes to explore areas around each of the above. eg Kobe when in Osaka.

Is it a cheaper option for us to take 2 regional passes eg. East pass + Kansai pass, or the National pass?

If we were to take the 2 regional passes does this allow us to get from Hakone to Kyoto and Osaka to Tokyo?

Many thanks :)

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

How many days will you be staying in each city? Knowing this would help me find the best option for you.

Please note that the JR East and West passes do not match and would not get you from Hakone/Tokyo to Kyoto or Osaka.

Kind regards,
Daniel
