My boyfriend and I are coming to Japan in March with the following itinerary:
March 25-27: Tokyo
March 27: Train from Tokyo to Osaka
March 28: Train Osaka to Tanabe
March 29-April 1: hiking the Kumano Kodo
April 1: Travel Hongu to Osaka
April 2: Train Osaka to Kyoto
April 2-5: Stay in Kyoto
April 5: Train Kyoto to Tokyo
April 5-7: Stay in Tokyo then fly home
Please could you let me know which Shinkansen pass is best suited for our trip?

Hi Ella,
A 7-day JR Pass would be cost-efficient here if you make the return Tokyo - Kyoto within 7-days. However, I see you will take longer, so I think just buying normal train tickets works better.
