Regional vs JR Pass

Hello,

I am traveling to Japan on Nov 22 from the US. We arrive to and depart from Tokyo and will ONLY visit Kyoto.
1. Is it worth it to buy a JR Pass?
2. Is there an option to buy a round trip ticket instead of a 7 day pass?
3. I see there is also an option for a Regional Pass for Osaca-Tokyo. Would this be a better option?
4. Do I need to buy in advance or can I buy it when I get there?

Thanks in advance!

Melanie

Hi there,

1.) You'd have to do more travel for the pass to be valuable, however a day trip to say Hiroshima would be enough to cover this.

2.) Yes

3.) It's a good alternative, and has very good value for money. That said, travel times can be longer, be sure to read the product destription. See Hokuriku Arch Pass.

4.) If you buy a pass, do so at least 14 days before your departure to Japan - normal tickets can be purchased locally.

Kind regards,
Daniel
