Hi, I'm in japan at the moment, and I had reserved seats on the shinkansen train from Tokyo to Osaka, but missed the train. I then had to buy another ticket to get to my destination, but have now read somewhere that I could still have used my original ticket on an unreserved seat, as long as it's on the same day. Is this right ? If so, could I claim a refund on my original ticket as I did not know I could do that.

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm not completely sure if this is the case for JR-East, but it wouldn't hurt to try claim a refund as Shinkansen tickets can be expensive.

Kind regards,

Alexis
