Will the extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga (effective March 16) have any impact on travel time from Tokyo to Osaka. If so, what is the estimated addition or reduction in travel time?

Thank you.

Hi there,

The opening of the new Shinkansen station at Tsuruga will indeed speed things up a bit, as you'll be on the Shinkansen between Kanazawa and Tsuruga. However, overall the difference will be small. Because you still have to transfer trains, and that's where the main time sink is. Depending on transfer time, expect a 10-15min time improvement on the entire route. We should see a real improvement once the train continues to Osaka directly.

All the best,
Daniel
