We are planning to visit our son in yokosuka in December. We will fly into Narita and then go to Yokosuka where we would like to use as our home base to visit some other sites, including Kyoto, on day trips. We can purchase a rail pass, but guess our son can't. Is Kyoto too far away from yokosuka for a day trip and is this plan doable?
Yokosuka as home base
Hi there,
Kyoto is about 219 Minutes (almost 4 hours) away from Yokosuka, this make it a little too far for a day trip. I would recommend staying at least one night in Kyoto if you wish to visit it.
The trip Yokosuka - Kyoto is ¥ 13,110 for one way. It is covered by the JR Pass but it may be quite a bit of money for someone who does not have to pass.
Other great places not too far from Yokosuka include, Kamakura, Hakone and the Izu pensila.
I hope this helps!
Daniel
Thank you, Daniel-san! How do we get from Narita to yokosuka and on what parts of the trip can we use our JR pass?
Hi Again,
To get from Narita Airport - Yokosuka, take the Narita Express to Yokohama there transfer to the JR Yokosuka Line bound for Yokosuka and get out there. The train ride is ¥ 4,810 and fully cover by the JR Pass.
