Hi guys!
We're going to Japan next July, and we have a few questions. We already bought a 14 day JR Pass, but we need some advices. This is our current trip plan:

16.July - Narita Airport to Tokyo
17.July - Tokyo
18.July - Daytrip to Nikko
19.July - Daytrip to Kamakura
20.July - Tokyo to Kyoto
21.July - Kyoto
22.July - Daytrip to Nara
23.July - Daytrip to Horyu-ji
24.July - Kyoto
25.July - Kyoto to Hiroshima and Miyajima
26.July - Miyajima to Himeji and ??
27.July - ??
28.July - ??
29. July - From ?? to Tokyo
30. July - Tokyo to Narita Airport

As you can see we still have some gaps on our itinerary, so we would appreciate some advices. Where should we go? We also would like to go to an Onsen, but the ones we saw seemed too far and expensive. As I said earlier we already got a 14 day pass so we would like to use it wisely, and we really want to absorb all we can from japanese culture!

Can you help? Thanks.

Hi there!

Nice trip! I very much like the idea of visiting both Nikko and Miyajima as well as seeing some of Japans big cities.
As for Onsen, two option come to mind. The first north of Kyoto is Kinosaki Onsen, Kinosaki Onsen is a small onsen town best visited for with at least 1 nights stay. I visited there last winter and it was absolutely magical. The other option is Arima Onsen, not too far from Kobe. We had an other forum visitor asking about the other day. You could combine it with a visit to Kobe which is an other of my favorite cities in Japan, simply because it has so much to offer.

An other option a friend reminded me of is Dogo Onsen in Shikoku. You can reach it easily from Hiroshima with a transfer at Okayama. Dogo Onsen is one of the most famous onsen in Japan and a visit can easily combined with a visit to Matsuyama.

I hope this gives you some ideas!
-Daniel
