We are planning a trip for April of this year.
Fly into Narita on April 13
April 16 Tokyo - Kyoto. I want to stop off at Sekigahara, just get off the train spend a few hours, and hop back on to Kyoto. From my research, it looks best to take a Shinkansen to Nagoya and then a JR train the rest of the way.
April 20 Kyoto - Osaka
April 22 Osaka - Nara
April 23 Nara - Kanazawa
April 24 Kanazawa - Tokyo.
Flying out Narita April 26th
What I am thinking:
Getting 72-hour passes for the Kyoto and Tokyo Metro.
Buying individual tickets for the Tokyo to Kyoto trip. And to and from Narita
For the rest of the trip get a 7 Day Osaka Tokyo Hokuriku Pass.
I think this would be the cheapest way to do the trip. Its a 15 day trip so the 14 day JR pass won't cover everything. And if I get a regional pass it is $100 USD less.
I am a veteran traveler and my wife is learning some Japanese. I've been to Japan before but just Tokyo.
