Hi,

will be in Japan for 7 days and wondering if JR pass is practical for our purposes.

This is how some major rides we will be doing:

1) Narita Airport - Shinjuku
2) Shinjuku to Mt Fuji
3) Mt Fuji Back to Shinjuku
4) shinjuku to kyoto
5) kyoto to osaka (KIX) airport (is it more practical to go back to tokyo and fly out from narita airport)?

thanks for your help!

Hi there,

Buying a JR Pass would basically come down to point 5. The pass is great for long distance travel and you can make some good savings on the way if you do. However with your current itinerary (one way Tokyo - Kyoto), it would not make much sense to get the JR Pass as your travel would not cover the purchase price. This changes around if you were to go back to Narita Airport as the 7 day JR Pass is roughly the same price as a return Tokyo - Kyoto by Shinkansen and any additional travel you may do basically is what you save.

I would look into the price difference between flying out from Narita or Kansai Airport and make a complete financial picture from there.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
