Tokyo - Osaka- Kyoto - Mt Fuji? - Tokyo, need some help with itenary

Hi my name is Yudi and this will be the 1st time i will be travelling to Japan from Melbourne, Australia without any help from any tour guide. So any guidance will be much appreciated. :D, i will be arriving in Japan on Friday 29th of March until 6th of April.

Here is my itinerary list,
29.03.13 - 01.04.13 Tokyo
01.04.13 - 02.04.13 Osaka
02.04.13 - 03.04.13 Kyoto
03.04.13 Travelling back to Tokyo, will stop over in Mt Fuji?
03.04.13 - 06.04.13 Tokyo

There are couple of question that i would like to ask;
1. Since i will be in Japan for 10 days, is it worth it to buy JR train for 7 days with 4 different city that i would stop over?
2. If it is, would it be possible if i start to use the JR train pass for any nominated days? For eg, on the 1st of April since i would like to use it to travel to Osaka?
3. If i would like to proceed to buy it from Melbourne Australia how long will it take to receive the JR pass?
4. Could i have any tips on which station would be better for me to stopover if i would like to see the MT fuji? and what tourist attraction i could see in that station?

Hi Yudi,

Welcome to the forum! It is always nice to read about new people visiting Japan, so I hope I can help out!

1.) Yes I think you could save some money with the JR-Pass, it is about the same price as a return Tokyo Osaka so if you can do some extra travel with it you will be sure to make some good savings. What you could do for instance is use it from the 31st until the 6th, this way your travel between Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka is covered and you can also use it for your way back to Narita Airport.

2.) The Pass is valid for 7 consecutive days and you can choose the first day of use yourself.

  1. Shipping to Australia generally takes 3 working days, for example if we dispatch it on Monday you will receive it on Wednesday or Thursday latest. You can find the shipping details here.

4.) Personally I think Fuji-san is best reached from Tokyo itself, it makes for a very good day trip. Unfortunately JR does not go all the way to Fuji, there are 2 ways you can reach Fuji-san; by train or by bus. If you would like to take the train you can use the JR to travel to the station called Otsuki, there transfer to the Fujikyu line (1,100 Yen) or you can take a direct bus to Fuji from Shinjuku (Tokyo), this bus costs 1,700 Yen.

Once you are back in Tokyo and still feel like traveling, then you could also make a day trip with the JR-Pass. Personally I would really recommend a day visit to Nikko, this way you also make great use of the JR-Pass.

On your first trip from Narita Airport to Tokyo you may find the [Suica + Narita express] ticket package useful.
