Hi
We are arriving in Japan on 2 March until 23rd March. We plan to spend the first couple of nights in Tokyo then go to Nozawa Onsen for five days skiing. Leave Nagano for Fukuoka on 9 March and spend six days on Kyushu visiting Beppu and Yufuin. We then have to travel back to Tokyo on business for 15th, 16th and 17th. We then plan to go to Kyoto and Osaka for six days including a possible day trip to Nara. Leaving Kyoto on the morning of 24th to be at Narita Airport for 18.00

Three questions please

  1. Does the 21 days full JR rail pass cover all these travel plans.
  2. Can we collect the pass at Narita Airport on our arrival and also book all the seats for these journeys?
  3. Do you think this is a reasonable itinerary given that we have to back in Tokyo for the middle of the trip? We are open to suggestions if this seems like an awkward use of our time.

Thankyou

Hi there,

Great travel plan!

1.) Yes, the JR Pass will cover travel between all the places you visit.

2.) Yes, as in you can activate the JR Pass on the day of arrival and start making reservations right away. Sometimes it can be busy at Narita Airport, then you could do so at any next station you visit.

3.) Yes, with 3 weeks to spare it's a good plan. Yufuin to Tokyo will be a long trip, so maybe add a nice stop in between? Like Himeji. Tokyo - Kyoto/Osaka is not too bad of a trip and will take less than 3 hours. The other long trip will be Nagano - Fukuoka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
