What would be the best pass to get for a 18 day trip. Our itinerary is

Days 1 & 2 - Fly into Narita Airport and stay in Tokyo
Day 3, 4 & 5 - Hakuba Valley
Day 6, 7 & 8 - Nozawa Onsen
Day 9 - travel north but unknown where we will stay
Day 10, 11 & 12 - Niseko
Day 13, 14 & 15 - Furano
Day 16 - Sapporo
Day 17 - Tokyo
Day 18 - Fly out of Narita Airport

Will the pass work from Narita Airport and get us close to all the ski resorts that we have planned to visit? Will we need to purchase local train or bus passes to reach our destinations?

Thank you

Hi there,

Yes, you can use the JR Pass to travel to Hakuba and most of the way to Nozawa Onsen (take the Shinkansen to Iiyama station, for there a non-JR bus takes you to Nozawa).

The JR Pass would really help you make savings if you plan on going up north by Shinkansen to Hokkaido. Though it is quite a trip. Same for going down from Sapporo - Tokyo.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
