Hi there,

Been searching for several days and is still torn between buying a JR pass or local pass for my itinerary for next week's travel to Japan. I am traveling first time solo and need help to see if it would be cost efficient to purchase the 7 days Jr pass for my travel. Having not much time in planning the trip, my rough itinerary is as follows. Would appreciate if there are suggestion to places of interest in these areas.

Im interested in culture and tradition and scenary.

day 1: Kansai airport explore osaka then head to kyoto
day 2 :kyoto
day 3: Kyoto to lake kawaguchiko (mishima to gotembo, fujikyu bus to kawaguchiko station)
day 4: lake kawaguchiko
day 5: lake kawaguchiko
day 6: lake kawaguchiko to tokyo (yotsuya)
day 7: tokyo
day 8: tokyo
day 9: tokyo to Narita Airport

Appreciate some pointers here.

Thanks so much.

Hi there!

Right now I don't think that the JR Pass would be the best option for your travel. Instead I would recommend buying normal tickets. Especially since your rail travel is limited in terms of distance and you plan to travel to Kawaguchiko by bus.

I do feel that 3-4 days is a relative long period of time to spend around Kawaguchiko, many people just visit it as a day trip from Tokyo. You could explore more of the area around Fuji five lakes and visit some of the other lakes. You could also head down to Gotemba which has a lot of Premium outlets and is great for some shopping!

Hope this helps!
Daniel
