Hi there

My family of 5 will be in Tokyo on 14 Dec and my hotel shuttle will send me to Odaiba after 10am. I will leave for Osaka at 5pm in the evening by Shinkansen.

Please adv the best way to priorities my trip starting from Odaiba to Asakusa, Shinjuku, Shibuya & finally back to Tokyo station in time to catch the bullet train to Osaka.

Kindly also adv the route of the trains to be taken from one venue to another venue and the traveling time as well.

Really appreciate your immediate reply each time!

Thanks again!

Hi there,

Assuming you want to maximise the use of a JR Pass, I recommend the following general route:

  1. Travel to Tokyo station with luggage and leave in a coin locker there for retrieval before you go to Osaka.
  2. Travel to Shinjuku, then Shibuya with the JR Pass
  3. Travel to Ueno with the JR Pass and transfer to Tokyo Metro Ginza line for one stop to Asakusa.
  4. Back to Ueno via Ginza line and then use JR Pass to Tokyo station.
  5. Retrieve luggage and board shinkansen to Osaka

This should maximise the use of the JR Pass and also give you the lightest route through the city and giving you the shortest distance to travel at the end of the day. Here's a more formal itinerary for you:

  1. Odaibakaihinkoen > Tokyo: ¥440 (23mins, 8km, incl. non-JR)
  2. Tokyo > Shinjuku(jr): ¥190 (15mins, 10km)
  3. Shinjuku(jr) > Shibuya: ¥150 (5mins, 3km)
  4. Shibuya > Ueno: ¥190 (30mins, 14km)
  5. Ueno > Asakusa(tobu/subway): ¥160 (5mins, 2km, incl. non-JR)
  6. Asakusa(tobu/subway) > Ueno: ¥160 (5mins, 2km, incl. non-JR)
  7. Ueno > Tokyo: ¥150 (8mins, 3km)

Hope this helps!

Hi Mari

Really appreciate your reply and good suggestions.

In case we don't get the shuttle from the hotel to Obaida, how should we travel by train from Nishi-Kasai subway station (where Toyoko Inn is located) to Tokyo station then follow by your proposed itinerary above as to maximize my JR pass?

Thanks so much once again!
