Hello,
We are a couple traveling to Japan in October and trying to figure out the best JR rail pass to purchase.
Here is our itinerary:

10/5: Arrive Tokyo Haneda Airport 4PM
10/6: Tokyo > Hakone
10/7: Hakone > Yokkaichi
10/8: Yokkaichi >Hiroshima
10/9: Miyajim Island
10/10: Hiroshima > Kyoto with stop in Kurashiki
10/11: Kyoto
10.12: Day trip to Nara
10/13-10/15: Kyoto
10/16-10/20:Tokyo

My question is would it be better to purchase a 7 day pass and either activate it on the 6th and pay for an individual ticket back from Kyoto to Tokyo? Or is it more cost effective to just purchase the 14 day pass?
Thank you for any advice you can provide!
Best,
Danielle

Hi Danielle,

I think a 7-day JR Pass would give you the better value, then used for travel from 10/6 to 10/12 + buy a single return ticket to Tokyo.

The pass offers the best value on long distance trains, which in your case are Kyoto and Hiroshima.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thanks, Daniel!
One more question for you...if we were to do a day drip during our stay in Tokyo to a city on a JR line, do you think it would still be more cost effective to do the 7 day pass and pay for individual passes?
Is there somewhere I can find a price list for individual train tickets?

Thank you, again!
