Month in Japan, would this itinerary benift from the Japan Rail Pass?

My wife and I are planning to visit Japan for a month between the 28.04.2024 to the 28.05.2024.

Our itinerary includes the following cities:

28.04 - 02.05 | Tokyo
* 02.05 - 03.05 | Nara
03.05 - 07.05 | Hiroshima
07.05 - 11.05 | Osaka
11.05 - 15.05 | Kagoshima
15.05 - 19.05 | Kobe
19.05 - 21.05 | Kyoto
21.05 - 22.05 | Koyasan
* 22.05 - 27.05 | Toyko

We're considering buying a 21-days Japan Rail Pass, covering our time outside of Tokyo (the JRP would therefore be active from the 02.05.2024 to the 22.05.2024).

Could you kindly let us know if the Japan Rail Pass would cover all of the trains linking these cities? If so, would it be financially worth it? It's fine if we don't save a big amount of money, as the convenience of using the JRP would be nice in itself.

Hi there,

All of your itinerary is covered by the JR Pass, but note that to get to Koyasan you'll need to get to Hashimoto (Wakayama) Station and then take the Nankai-Koya Line Local towards Gokurakubashi to Koyasan. This line isn't included in the JR Pass, but the ticket is approximately 490 YEN (about £2.60) so this shouldn't be a problem.

If you're purchasing the JR Pass for its added benefit of convenience I would certainly recommend it!

Thank you very much Alexis and duly noted on the additional required ticket.

While I appreciate the convenience brought by the JRP, I'm trying to understand if I could find a cheaper alternative for this trip without using the JRP.
