Hi, Travelling to Narita airport in Sept and debating which rail pass or IC card to get? We are staying near Narita Airport for a couple of days, needing to get to Narashino from there, then moving in to Asakusa for 10 nights & wanting to travel to Asaka & Chofu (Rugby World Cup Fanzone?) from Asakusa. Then travelling to Kashiwa-no-ha for a couple of days before returning to Narita. Can you advise if the JR pass would be cheaper than a Regional Pass? If Regional cheaper - which region would we need to purchase to cover all these places? Or would a Pasmo\ Suicacard be cheaper option?
Thanks.
Jr Railpass / Regional pass / Pasmo card
Hi there,
All your travel is within the Greater Tokyo area, as such I would recommend using an IC card to get around.
A JR Pass would be good if you travelled to other cities as well, like Kyoto, Osaka and so on.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
Thanks Daniel, which IC card would be better for us. Pasmo or Suica? I think I've read somewhere that you cannot return the Suica card in Narita Airport in order to get your refund? Also do they refund any balance left on the card as well as the 500JPY deposit? Is there a charge for these cards other than the 500JPY? Again, I think I've read somewhere that they cost £20? I was wondering if you could advise me on the Pocket Wifi or Sim card? I want to be able to use google maps and google translate while out and about. I'm swaying towards a pocket wifi (renting for 17 days) but several people have said SIM card is better? My phone is unlocked so there would be no problem getting a SIM card but I'm thinking that I would need to be in a wifi area to be able to check google maps while out and about? Is this correct? Although a SIM card would be cheaper option than Pocket Wifi? Thank you for your assistance so far....
