Hi there,

I'm planning to travel to Japan end of April for 14 days, we're arriving at Kansai and will stay in 4 days in Osaka, then 4 in Kyoto and 6 in Tokyo, flying out from Narita. Would a 14-day rail pass be suitable? We are planning on a few day trips out of the cities and wondering if the rail pass would make it easier.

Hi there,

For this trip it will likely be cheaper to just buy normal tickets. Travel within Kansai and greater Tokyo regional don't cost that much compared to longer distance travel. That would however depend on what day trips you'll be making.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Kind regards,
Daniel
