Hi All ,

I am planning my honeymoon in Japan in december on a budget ( as it was my dream destination ) from 7th - 14th Dec. Ttransit Delhi - Tokyo - Delhi.

Here's the itinerary with some questions

7th dec Day 1 : Narita to tokyo. Airbnb( Staying in Shibuya ) . Reaching around 1pm. free day around

8th dec Day 2 : Tokyo day trip, old town, parks

9th dec Day 3 : Disney Sea whole day

10th dec Day 4 : Hakone , Mt Fuji , Lake Ashi trek , Open air museum ropeways . Stay in hakone

11th Dec Day 5 : Hakone to Kyoto , Kyoto day trip

12th dec Day 6 : Kyoto - Osaka day trip

13th dec Day 7 : Kyoto - Nara day trip

14th dec Day 8 : Kyoto - Tokyo - haneda ( flight on the 15th early morning 5 am )

Since it is working out to be an 8 day trip, is it possible to top up my jr pass for a day or is it better to activate my pass on the 2nd day ?

Also is JR Pass applicable for all the places mentioned above. ( Not getting clarity with the Hakone district )
And if i have to take a call is it worth staying in Hakone or a day trip from tokyo is equally good.

We plan to start all days early till late night and get the maximum out of our dream honeymoon to Japan.

Please suggest if the above mentioned itinerary is good enough from a honeymoon perspective or i can swap either Nara or Osaka with any other beautiful destination around .

Any other recommendations / suggestions greatly received!

Thanks a lot in advance

Hi there,

Personally, I think Japan is the best place for any honeymoon! Good choice.

Now let's see what I can add here.

The JR Pass can't be extended but that is no problem as local travel on your first day won't cost a lot and you are fine starting it the next day.

The JR Pass covers your itinerary for about 95% percent of distance traveled and you will definitely get good value for your money. Some parts, mainly around Hakone do need additional transport. Here you can look at using a Hakone Free Pass.

It looks like a good trip to Japan, especially if it is your first time there and a night in Hakone compliments that well (be sure to book a romantic onsen with private bath).

I think the next step is to fill in the details, like what kinds of things you want to try, eat and see and plan. Seeing as much as possible is understandable but also plan for some quality time together and just relax.

Have a great trip!
Daniel
