Hi, plan to travel from Fukuoka to Yonago with a stop at Hiroshima. Can I get a train from Hiroshima to Yonago or do I have to go via Okayama? How long would the journey take? My suggested route is Fukuoka-Yonago-Okayama-Kyoto-Tokyo (2 days) then fly out. Other stops are only one day each so not sure if I can get to Yonago and back to Okayama if I stop off for a a few hours at Hiroshima. Would I be better to go to Okayama after Hiroshima for the night? Your help would be appreciated.

Good morning from Europe,

Very interesting question! The full route from Hakata - Yonago takes about 4 hours. You could make a stop at Hiroshima and have a good amount of time to look around, after you can continue to Yonago (via Okayama) and stay the night there. I would not recommend making to full trip Fukuoka - Hiroshima - Yonago - Okayama - back to Yonago on the same day. There is a limited express train connection directly to Yonago from Okayama, this makes it by far the quickest route.

Are you planning to stay at Okayama too for sightseeing? You could for instance stay the night at Yonaga and then take a morning train to Okayama, make a stop there and continue on to Kyoto.

I hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you so much, I noted I can change a train at Okayama with about 7 minutes to get from platform 23 to platform 2. Is this feasible? I dont know how big the stations are or the layout.

Hi Again,

Okayama is a very is transfer station. I have made several transfers there myself and it is a very easy process. Since you come from the Shinkansen follow the signs with transfers to other lines, go trough the gate and take the stairs down to the platform. It is a very easy process.

Thank you so much. That has given me confidence for this adventure. I am informed that the Adachi Museum and gardens are worth the visit to Yonago.

Oh yes! I was in Matsue just this April and visited the Adachi Museum too! It is certainly worth the time and effort!
