We are family of 4 with teenage children will travel to Japan first time ever, arrive Narita Airport on 25 Nov and fly out on 5 Dec, 8:23pm from same airport. The place we would like to visit are Mt. Fuji, Osaka, Kyoto and any interesting place in the route. We need help on planning the itinerary from day 1, 25 Nov till the 1 Dec, start from Tokyo and finish in Tokyo on 2 Dec as we think to stay at Tokyo from 2 Dec to 5 Dec before fly out to home.

Day 1, 25 Nov arriving Narita Airport 6.30pm

Day 2, 26 Nov, Mt Fuji (is it too late to get here on 25 Nov after arriving? How to get here and any recommended accommodation?)

Day 3, 27 Nov, need help
Day 4, 28 Nov, need help
Day 5, 29 Nov, need help
Day 6, 30 Nov, need help
Day 7, 1 Dec, need help
Day 8, 2 Dec, Tokyo
Day 9, 3 Dec, Tokyo
Day 10, 4 Dec, Tokyo
Day 11, 5 Dec, Tokyo, fly out from Narita Airport 8.25pm

Please kindly help us to plan a good itinerary, any recommendation accommodation at places and transport to get around. Shall we need Japan Rail Pass?

Wait to your prompt reply and thank you so much.

Hi there!

It's only 12 more days before you set out for Japan, so it's a good time to start planning. If I understand it correctly, you would want to visit Osaka and Kyoto in on day 3 through 6?

First let's have a look at your arrival and visit to Fuji. Arriving Narita Airport 6.30pm, I would recommend travelling to Tokyo to stay the night there and go on to Fuji the next morning. Fuji can be approached from different directions, the most common is from Tokyo to the Fuji five lakes area. You can go here by taking the train from Tokyo station to Otsuki station, from where you can take the Fujikyu line to mt. Fuji.

From Fuji, I would suggest going to Kyoto. To get here take the train back to Tokyo station, from Tokyo station there's a direct bullet train going to Kyoto. Osaka is also closely located to Kyoto (just 29min away by rail), I would suggest making Kyoto your base and make a day trip or two from there to Osaka. This way you don't have to carry your luggage around. I would recommend a 7 day JR Pass for your travel to Kyoto, Osaka and the way back to Tokyo. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto, so basically any additional travel is free.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
