Hi,

We are trying to work out the best way to travel to the areas we want to go to in our itinerary and what the cost will be for JR trains. We want to see if it is worth while in buying the 14 day JR pass.

We will be travelling Japan from Sept 30th - Oct 15th 2013.

1) Tokyo Narita - Hakone (2 night)
2) Hakone - Magone - Tsumago (1 night)
3) Tsumago - Kyoto (3 nights)
4) Kyoto - Kinosaki (2 night)
5) Kinosaki - Osaka (1 night)
6) Osaka - Mount Koya (1 night)
7) Mount Koya - Himeji ( 1 night)
8) Himeji - Tokyo (4 night)
9) Shinjuku - Haneda Airport

Do you think this itinerary is feasible?

Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam!

I think your plan works out very well, looking at it time-wise.
Now let's have a look at ticket prices and see what would work out best for you regarding tickets and rail-pases.

Narita Airport - Hakone (Odawara station). ¥ 6,790
Hakone - Natsugawa for Magome ¥ 10,370
Natsugawa - Kyoto ¥ 8,060(bus from Tsumago, train from Natsugawa).
Kyoto - Kinoksaki onsen ¥ 4,710
Kisosaki - Osaka ¥ 5,450
(Travel to Koya is outside of the JR Pass validity) Osaka - Himeji ¥ 3,640
Himeji - Tokyo ¥ 15,210

This adds up to ¥ 54,230 the 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 45,100 so you could save ¥ 9,130 which is not bad at all!

I hope this helps!
Daniel
