Hullo,
How is the expiry date and time of the JR Pass calculated?
I have purchased a 7-day pass. Would like to activate it on January 14th. When would it expire?
Thank you in advance,
Anjali

Hi there,

The JR Pass is counted in days (not hours) and the first day is counted as a full day, no matter what time you start using the JR Pass.

For example, starting the JR Pass on the 14th, then the last day of usage would be the 20th, until midnight.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you.
This is my itinerary so far:

Start journey on Jan 11th.

Arrive in Tokyo (Haneda) Jan 13th @ 4:05

Spend the night in Tokyo

On the 14th activate the JR Pass and travel to Kyoto.

Spend 14th in Kyoto.

Travel to Miyajima on 15th. Spend 1 night in Miyajima.

On 16th travel to Hiroshima. Spend 1 night in Hiroshima.

On 17th travel back to Kyoto. Plan to do day trips--Philosopher's Path, Arashiyama, HImeji Castle, Uzi.

Leave for Tokyo on the 20th. Continue on, from Tokyo to Hokkaido on the JR train. Have to reach Abashiri on the 20th. Have an ice-breaker cruise on the 21st @ 9am. Will it be possible to make the journey from Kyoto to Hokkaido in one day?

Where in this itinerary can I fit in a trip to Wakayama and the Amarube Bride and Aqueduct?

Thank you in advance,
Anjali

Hi there,

Yes, you can do the trip Kyoto - Hokkaido in one day (I've done Hakata - Hakodate once myself in a day).

I think you already have a very busy trip, so I'd Wakayama and the Amarube Bride and Aqueduct to your next trip to Japan :)
