We will be traveling by train from Kyoto to Tokyo. Is it possible to exit at Fuji-Shin, travel by bus or train and spend 3-4 hours walking in one of the National Parks with closer views of the mountain, and then return to complete the trip to Tokyo? How difficult of a journey from the Fuji-Shin train station?

Hi there,

I would not exit Shin-Fuji, there's literally nothing around that station expect for industry buildings. Instead I would use the Shinkansen to travel to Odawara station and explore the Hakone area from there.

Hakone has a lot to do and see and also offers an amazing view on Fuji (good weather permitting).
