Nikko and Golden Week

Hi!

We'll be landing in Tokyo on May 2nd, and that's when we'll exchange our JR Pass.

We're planning to stay in Tokyo for the first days (letting the golden week pass without much traveling), but we would linke to go from Tokyo to Nikko on May 5th, and then from Nikko to Kyoto on May 6th.

Is there a chance that we can't get any trains for that on May 2nd? Do you think it's too risky to have a reservation in Nikko for that night?

Thanks!

Hi there,

I don't see any problem here. Especially if you arrive on the 2nd of May. You can exchange the JR Pass right away, select a first day of use and make reservations for your travel. My advise would be to do so the day of arrival, that way you are secure of seating and don't have to worry at all :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
