Mid October fall folliage

I will arrive in Kyoto on October 14, stay 4 nights then travel to Tokyo on October 18 for 5 nights. Looking to spend about 2 days/nights traveling out of Tokyo to see fall folliage.

I will arrive in Kyoto on October 14, stay 4 nights then on October 18 train to Tokyo for 5 nights. Do you suggest a round trip train itinerary to see fall folliage leaving from Tokyo for 2 nights on October 20-22?

A 7 day JR Pass will be the best option if you make a return Tokyo - Osaka. To enjoy the foliage, from Osaka you could go to Nara or mountains around Kyoto. Both are very scenic. From Tokyo I would recommend visiting Mt. Takao.
