Hi,

My partner and I are planning a trip to Japan before heading off to Indonesia for surfing. This means his surfboard needs to come along with us for the Japan trip. We'll be flying into Tokyo and then ideally getting a bullet train to Kyoto, does anyone have any experience taking a surfboard on a bullet train? Or any of the delivery services?

Thanks

Hello there,

I've seen people taking really strange stuff aboard and a surfboard would quality as unusual.

The official guidelines are as follows:
You may bring up to two pieces of baggage on board free of charge. For each bag the total of the length, width and height must not exceed 250 centimeters, the length must not exceed two meters and the weight must be no more than 30 kilograms.

I don't think that it will be a problem when you travel during off times, however you could consider using a luggage forwarding service. This will make travel a lot more convenient and you'll be sure that everything works out. Takkyubin from Yamamote transport is most used within Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

That's great thanks!

Also wondering how to get from the airport. The limousine bus is out as its max luggage is 120cm and taxis are out too. Do you have any experience with the luggage holds in Haneda Airport?

Hi again!

Unfortunately not, however there are luggage forwarding services available at Haneda Airport, perhaps you could use one of them.
