Jr pass or single tickets

Hi, guys

First of all, let me explain my itinerary 😅

Arriving at Narita Airport > then going to Osaka > Kyoto > Tokyo > a day trip to Fuji in one of the days in Tokyo

Is it worth to buy Jr Pass? Or should I buy single tickets?

I know that previously the fastest train wasn't included on Jr Pass but I know that it had some changes, so I'm a little bit lost what would be cheaper.

Also, I want to take the fastest train so I don't lose time, I know that some trains to Osaka and Kyoto are included on Jr Pass but I don't know the fastest one.

Thank you!

Hi there,

For your itinerary it is likely to be more cost-effective to purchase your tickets individually. However, the JR Pass will cover all of your itinerary and so it is still an option worth looking into if you feel that a pass is better suited for you.

You are right, the JR Pass doesn't include the Nozomi services between Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto, but you'll still be able to ride the regular shinkansen which is already extremely fast - the Nozomi service is mostly for commuters hence why it is not included. You do have the option to purchase an add-on ticket to the JR Pass that will include a desired Nozomi route, e.g. for Tokyo to Kyoto.

Hope this helps!

Alexis
