I’ll be traveling to Tokyo for nine days with the following itinerary:

  • Arriving at Narita Airport (NRT)
  • Spending three nights in Tokyo, exploring various parts of the city
  • Traveling to Lake Kawaguchi for one night
  • Heading to Kyoto for three nights, with a planned day trip to Nara
  • Moving on to Osaka for two nights
  • Returning to Narita Airport (NRT)

Would a JR Pass be worth it for this itinerary? If so, can it be booked online? If online booking isn’t available, should I reserve all my train tickets at the first station I visit?

Hi there,

For your itinerary, purchasing your tickets individually would be your most cost-effective option, as the cost of your itinerary does not justify the cost of a JR Pass. You can choose to purchase these tickets either online on various websites including Japan Travel by Navitime, or in person at JR stations.

Kind regards,

Alexis
